Pulse, October 21

This week while making the Pulse I thought of finding the concrete ideas of what you can do the three coming days and all of them are free of charge

1. Seminar

Tomorrow, on Wednesday at 16.00 at Parkteatret there is a seminar «Alternatives to Military intervension», where 2 documentaries: «View from the Bridge» about Kosovo and «Pray the Devil Back to Hell» about Liberia will be shown and followed up by discussions.

Register at http://www.dokumentarkino.no beforehand if you are interested.

2. Movie

On Thursday there is a movie shown at Cinemateket at 16.30.This time it's My daughter the terrorist-In this intimate and personal portrait we meet two young female elite soldiers in Sri Lanka trained for the ultimate mission for the Black Tigers. We share their childhood experiences, their dreams and their families' loss. Left is the mother. What makes anyone want to blow themselves up for a cause? Some answers to this question might be found in the movie.

3.Movie

On Friday there is yet another movie- «I am because we are» shown at Literaturhuset at 18.30. Malawi is the second poorest country in the world. One million children are orphans due to HIV and AIDS in a country where poverty overshadows hope. I Am Because We Are sketches out how social and cultural traditions in Malawi help create serious problems for the society. We meet inhabitants, old and young, who talk about how traditions and silence contribute to the spreading of HIV, violence and oppression. I Am Because We Areis a documentary that does not only convey young people’s hopes and dreams for the future but also gives us an indication what the rest of the world can do to help. It is written and co-produced by Madonna, the pop artist.
