The Pulse Week 47

November 15th to 25th marks the days of the Oslo International Film Festival. While a 60 NOK festival pass and 60 NOK tickets are required to attend the screenings, it may well be worth it for a seasoned movie buff. I recommend "My Blueberry Nights", the latest offering from the Chinese director Wong Kar-Wai. A fanciful road-trip story, it features an ensemble cast headed by Norah Jones and Jude Law. This film will be showing Saturday the 24th at 9:10 pm and Sunday the 25th at 9 pm. Both screenings will be held at Eldorado at Torggata 9. Tickets and festival passes can be purchased in advance at all Oslo Kino cinemas. http://www.oslofilmfestival.com/2007/
Nothing say "Happy Thursday" like free waffles! This is indeed the order of the day the 22nd of November, when the International Students Union of Oslo celebrates the release of its fall 2007 Academic Review. Drop by to pick up a free copy of this English-language publication and to try your skill at karaoke. The party starts at 6 pm in the Kjelleren of Helga Engs hus at Blindern. Admission is free, and come early to get the free waffles.
Does the word "knitting" conjure images of mishapped Christmas sweaters? Hopefully this is not the case, because as we speak the Museum of Decorative Arts is hosting a knitting exhibition. With contributors from all over the world, the designs run the gamut from nostalgic to provocative. The museum is located at St. Olavs gate 1, and the exhibition can be viewed from Tuesday to Friday after 11 am, and Saturday to Sunday after noon. Admission is free.

The last feature on the pulse is more an occasion to commemorate than an event itself. Saturday the 24th of November has been declared international "Buy Nothing Day" by the grassroots organization, Adbusters. Celebrated to raise awareness against the rampant consumerism that precedes the Christmas holidays, the campaign suggests foregoing needless shopping. In solidarity with people in over 60 other countries, participate by avoiding purchases on Saturday. For more ideas to celebrate the day, check out http://adbusters.org/metas/eco/bnd/.

2. It can also be a good idea to watch a Norwegian movie this week. As a part of Cinemateket’s project “Contemporary Norway”, this week comes a movie: “CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO DIE by Marius Holst. The movie is based on a short-story by the famous Norwegian author Lars Saabye Christensen.Otto Olsen is the smallest boy on the soccer team and is finding it hard to gain acceptance from his team mates. His best friend, as well as most everyone in town, is leaving for summer holidays. The youngster is left behind to spend his vacation at home. At this sensitive, lonely moment, a charismatic stranger named Frank appears. It became a fateful summer for everyone.
It’s on 08.11.2007 at 16:30 at Cinemateket.

3. The third event is for those of you who want to practice their Norwegian and meet a well-known Norwegian author Erlend Loe. Some of you have to read his “Naiv. Super” as an obligatory literature for your Norwegian course. Why not go and listen what the author has to tell himselfJ

4.Now it’s time to get updated on the music life in Oslo.
